Movie Review: Inception

Riley and I loved this movie and whole-heartedlyAdd Image recommend it. The special effects were fantastic and the plot was phenomenal. I don't want to give anything away about it so I won't say much. But we loved this movie and have already seen it twice. It's pretty clean too. The only thing it has is some language but there really isn't that much of it . It's intense and makes you think. WARNING: Go to the bathroom before the movie starts so you don't miss anything in the story. Let us know if you go and see the movie because we would love to discuss it with you. We think the majority of you will like it. Check it out!

I saw it and was very disappointed actually. it was too much and too long, and their were inconsistencies in the dream sequences. People said it was the movie of the decade, no WAY! totally overrated. I imagine Christopher Nolan said to himself: my goal in this film is not to tell a story but to keep the audience confused at every turn and have a twist every scene, that is not good film making. the idea of the movie wasnt bad however but it went too far and the original intent got lost in the middle of the movie. I thought the plot was far fetched and not realistic at all. thats my opinion.

You are entitled to your opinion but What holes are you referring to? It was a really clever storyline and I don't see how the movie lost it's original intent at all. Of course its not realistic its a movie with a completely original storyline that Christopher NOlan wrote himself. But i'm sorry you feel that way.

while I was watching it i felt like the maker of the movie was struggling with ADHD. the storyline sucks, the effects is what makes this movie fun to watch. if christopher nolan is going to take us inside of a dream he ought to be a little more imaginative. the snow sequence was so boring and looked like it could have came from an earlier bond movie. the charachters are not well developed which makes an emotional connection to them almost impossible, especially leos charachter. nolans work is so overrated. if the movie tells us of the power of an idea and its infectious nature then that could be analogous to the idea that this movie was a masterpiece. the hype associated with this movie is reminiscent to mass delusion, just like how the entire movie was a delusion. two thumbs down! no doubts about it.

I'd say the story is pretty solid, with the subplot of Leo being unable to let go of his wife tying into the main plot very neatly. And I don't think it's supposed to be realistic. However, there is such a thing as lucid dreaming, which is a dream state when you are aware you are dreaming and can control what happens. I think Nolan took this idea and expanded on it. The only thing very "far fetched" is that all of the people could be in the same dream and interact with each other. And Inception is considered a Sci-Fi thriller. Sci-fi movies tend to contain elements that aren't plausible. And the whole lack of character development argument, and Leo's character being the worst developed, is pretty much the opposite, I would say. Also, the argument that the dream settings should be more imaginative is invalid, because it was said that if things start to change too much, then the subconscious begins to attack. Also, the last six or so lines of that second comment are void, because you stated that "plot was far fetched and not realistic at all." Therefore, "the movie telling us of the power of an idea and its infectious nature" is far fetched. Right?

you obviously dont understand the difference between a theme and a plot. i stated that the plot was not believable but the theme was ok. the power of an idea is a good theme but nolan did a terrible job expanding on that. and even sci-fi thrillers ought to have some coherence and consistency in their original story lines. nolan has good ideas but he is a terrible story teller. he doesnt know how to translate ideas into emotional connections with people. i think you guys just like them movie because their was so much hype around it and your just jumping on the bandwagon. i personally dont enjoy movies made by those who clearly have ADD.

I just really don't see the "incoherence and inconsistencies" you keep mentioning. What are you talking about? What do you mean that Nolan did a "terrible" job expanding on his theme? Terrible? That's pretty harsh. Also, you're basically reduced to saying "You're stupid." I don't think people would read my comment and say "Wow, he obviously doesn't understand the difference between a plot and a theme." You're grasping at straws here. And honestly. Is that really what you think of your siblings? That we're just mindless bandwagon jumpers? Please don't bring THAT up again. Also, I'm sorry that you feel that people with disabilities shouldn't be allowed in the movie industry.

who is who? Can't tell who is arguing about this.

85% of reviewers like it. Thats pretty high.

I think Jon is the one arguing against the movie and Evan is the one arguing for the movie. But please state your names.

cobrakaidojo said...

First of all only 75% of reviewers liked it. Secondly the reviewers simply ask if it is a fun summer flick. it is. however, im strongly arguing against those who call it the masterpiece of the decade. this is the camp amy and riley fall into. of course its entertaining because some of its technical prowess. however, this movie is far from epic. it has no joy or humor or happiness. all of the charachters are emotionless. nolans dream states have no imagination like the "matrix" did(a far better movie). the whole movie is nolan explaining the rigid rules of the dream state when in fact the uncousious part of our brains is anything but rigid. have our expectations for movies become so low that this is what constitutes a masterpiece? wow! the movie industry has gone downhill and its all about special effects and tricks now. the ending in this movie was a horrible attempt to ask inspire thought about whether are lives are not really real. it was just like a twighlight zone episode. this movie could be considered fun but far from a masterpiece. amy and riley need to higher their standards for movies and not be swept away in this hype. if they want to see a real masterpiece they should watch chariots of fire or hoosiers which actually have good stories and themes. inception defintely left my imagination wanting.

oh, i thought i was arguing against riley. if its evan then its he who needs to get off the christopher nolan bandwagon...

Jon, I never said it was a masterpiece. I suggested people go see it because I thought it was a really good movie with a completely original script. It also didn't need any extra unnecessary fluff (for example, sexual content or a lot of bad language). It stayed true to the storyline throughout the whole movie. I can't believe you think the Matrix is a better movie. The first Matrix is good and certainly introduced a new wave of film making but it is POORLY acted and has some cheesy, cheesy lines. Inception is smarter and way better acted. I didn't ever feel uncomfortable in Inception as I do every time I watch Keanu Reeves in something. I was completely glued to the screen the entire movie. That's all I can say without giving anything away. Some people who read this blog haven't seen it yet. I will be interested to know what the rest of you think. You can have your opinion but I'm starting to think you didn't understand the movie.

Amy said...

Also, I know for a fact you like batman begins and the dark knight. You're acting like you don't like any of his movies.

jon has an opinion about a movie, and he has stated his opinion why he didnt like it.
its an opinion, why cant he have a contradictory opinion. we are not dealing with facts and/or stats...its his thoughts on a movie....gees....he didnt think it was as great as he thought the hype was....is that so wrong???

Amy said...

We're just debating. Of course Jon can have his opinion but his arguments don't make sense at all.

cobrakaidojo said...

thank you janelle. the fact that amy, riley, and evan cant except a contradictory opinion just shows how caught up they are in this latest trend.

Amy said...

I'm only asking you to properly back up your opinions. You're not making sense. You said in your first post that it was disappointing then in a later post you said it's entertaining. Which is it? You've also said "the movie is struggling with ADHD." What does that mean? You also said "there are holes." What holes are you talking about? You're not backing anything up. That's all. But we don't need to continue this argument further. You didn't like the movie. That's fine.

cobrakaidojo said...

amy, a movie can be disappointing and entertaining at the same time...

janellelee said...

this discussion only wants me to see this movie even more!!
but amy...just in case you missed reading these parts of jon's arguements, i have copied and pasted a few of his arguements which helped him SHAPE his OPINION of not thinking this movie was as great as some perhaps thought:

"the snow sequence was so boring and looked like it could have came from an earlier bond movie."

"the charachters are not well developed which makes an emotional connection to them almost impossible"

"he doesnt know how to translate ideas into emotional connections with people."

"the ending in this movie was a horrible attempt to ask inspire thought about whether are lives are not really real."

"the whole movie is nolan explaining the rigid rules of the dream state when in fact the uncousious part of our brains is anything but rigid"...

i just think it is bizarre and funny that you state "I'm only asking you to properly back up your opinions." when in fact, he has listed quite a few reasons why he did not like it and why, while he was watching the movie, these opinions began to formulate in his mind. it isn't A+B=C...it is a movie, entitled to interpretation, just like nolan interpreted the origanal book/screenplay, whatever. opinions are feelings based on our own experiences...we all have different experiences, thus we all have different opinions about a lot of things...

Jon can handle his own arguments without you defending him.
